Postponed Show Turned Fan Bonding: Heidi Curtis' Impromptu Acoustic Show in the Park
Singer songwriter Heidi Curtis from Newcastle, UK attended the Darlings park meet up in St. Stephen’s Green last Saturday. Following the unfortunate cancellation of Rachel Chinouriri’s headline show due to take place that evening, the Darlings, Rachel’s fan-base, came together at an impromptu gathering in the park, all thanks to Kaitlin, the owner of Rachel's HQ account.
Heidi Curtis joined us to do an acoustic set and showed her deepest gratitude to all of us for bringing the energy. She expressed how disheartened she was to not have a show to play and that this really turned her day around. We sat in a circle, chatted and shared our music interests as Rachel kindly organised pizzas and drinks to be delivered for us all to enjoy.
Heidi sat down on her two guitar cases, taking one out to tune as she got to know our names. Some of us had seen her live before as artists (Heidi and Rachel) both opened for Florence and The Machine earlier in the summer. She gifted us bookmarks and badges that she had made for the tour especially.
Heidi performed some of her latest work off the EP ‘Hollow Heart’ woven through inspirations of indie and folklore music, fronted by her love for nature. It seemed very fitting to be surrounded by a community, the trees and the birds.
A song that really stuck out to me was ‘Siren’, a song about feeling lost in the world, not knowing which direction to go but following in the way the wind and the sea takes you. The title track of the EP, she wrote after losing her grandmother, singing through grief and uncertainty, navigating how to live in the loss.
Heidi will be returning to Dublin for a show as part of her headline EU tour on October 13th.
