The Los Angeles punk quartet makes their 6th tour stop for their esteemed Gotta Get Out album, touching down in Denver, Colorado where local band Capture This and Minneapolis rockers, Vial, open up the swarming Summit Music Hall venue.

Capture This and Vial aptly warm up the crowd with pop punk ballads and political word play. The bands have appropriately partnered with activist platforms Propeller, PLUS1 and Headcount to promote immigrant and trans rights as well as educating the crowd on voting in the upcoming mid-terms. If you’re from Denver, you’re no stranger to the “concept” of caring for your neighbor, especially when this show has drawn every generation and walk of life. From little kids sporting tour merch that’s way too big to someone’s grandma moshing in the pit, The Linda Linda’s have the secret recipe for this communal gathering.

After being utterly blown away by the sheer musicality and talent of the first two sets, we are graced with the presence of the now (almost) all grown-up Linda Linda’s. Formed in 2019 and comprised of Eloise Wong, sisters Lucia de la Garza and Mila de la Garza and Bela Salazar, these not-so-teeny bopper rockers lay the groundwork for face melting guitar riffs and belting vocals.

Opening with title track “Gotta Get Out” the crowd is immediately ablaze with fervor and awe. Cruising through hits from this album with much witty banter and the obligatory “this altitude is killing me” comment, Eloise prefaces the next track “Blood On Our Hands” with “Too often profit and business is put before the health of the planet and the actual people that live on it” and the sentiment that we should be actively thinking about where we spend our money and stream our music. Eloise rips through the intro with a vocal register unknown to man, backed by the bands crushing drum hits and dark guitar riffs.

As the night carries on, we’re met with hits like “Closer” that covets a Hayley Williams feature, “Everybody Told Me”, with lyrics such as “thoughts like clouds drift in mind” suitably matching the cushy cloud imagery on stage. We’re swept away with a cover of The Go-Go's “Tonite” from the 1981 album Beauty and the Beat, which came out before most of us were even conceived (sorry elder millennials). As the night is coming to a close, Eloise makes a shoutout not just to the band but makes a note to include every crew member from lighting, sound and projection, while also humbling mentioning they created all the paper stop-motion artwork displayed behind the band.

The show isn’t quite over, where we are adorned with a three-song encore featuring “I Could Be Wrong”, single “Nino” about guitarist Bela’s cat which warrants a “Nino Nino Nino” chant from the crowd. Ending on a high note with “See You Next Time” the band plays us home and reminds us this isn’t a goodbye, but rather, a see-you-soon!
