Twice’s First Performance in Detroit, MI was ELECTRIC.

Detroit brought all of their energy for Twice on the “This is For” tour at Little Caesars Arena on April 10th. The minute the lights went down the crowd erupted with screams. I’ve never been to a concert this loud before. Fans of the group brought their best vibes, between the lightsticks, costumes, and dancing/singing, there was no doubt everyone was having a good time. Despite the group being down two members, Dahyun and Chaeyoung, the group still put on an amazing performance. Their set lasted just a little over 2 hours with a setlist of around 30 songs.

The stage setup for this tour was unlike anything I’ve seen before. The stage spans the entire floor with a massive center stage, catwalks on both sides and two smaller stages at the end of each catwalk. Not only was it massive, but it also incorporated moving platforms that elevated each member throughout the show. A large screen borders the main central stage, showcasing different fan interactions, closeups of the group, and song lyrics at times. All parts of the stage were very well incorporated throughout the whole show. The group did a great job interacting with every part of the floor and not facing one side for too long. Even during the dance breaks they would change directions every 30 seconds; each of the idols would even stand facing a different direction during the talking segments.

THE DANCERS!!! This tour brings in over 20 dancers to join in during the performance, the dancers span the whole stage at times but also come together to create insane visuals. They are insanely mesmerizing to watch at all times. One of my favorite dance breaks was during “Mars,” which acted as a transition between acts. The lighting design, song itself, and dancers really helped bring the song to life and captivate the audience. The dance started center stage with a 40 second solo, the lights then cut out and focus shifted over to the left stage where the 20 dancers delivered an insane nearly 2 minute long performance. The dance ended with one final soloist lighting back up the main stage. The entire number lasted nearly three minutes and was visually breathtaking.

One of the most memorable parts of the night was the fan dance-off. The dance off consisted of 3 different sections: Solos, Face off (against 2 fans), and dance off (between 3 groups of fans). They played Twice songs and showed various fans on screen doing the group's choreography. It was so fun to see the fans know the dances so confidently and be able to perform them in front of a venue full of thousands of people. It’s rare to see this level of fan interaction, and it added a unique and personal touch to the show.

The fans at this concert were so incredibly sweet. So many fans were dressed up in outfits inspired by different eras and albums of the group. One of the most popular outfits I saw in Detroit was the all red outfits from the “This is for” music video which was completed with a red crochet hat with charms all over.

Some of the biggest crowd pleasers of the night included “I can’t stop me,” “Yes or Yes,” and “This Is For.” Even if you don't know much of their music, Twice puts on a show that everyone can enjoy.

After experiencing this show, I am speechless, and will be in attendance at another performance again.
