Nat and Alex Wolff Reflect On Past Experiences in Self-Titled Album

Hailing from Nickelodeon, Nat and Alex Wolff got an early taste of stardom. The brothers produced hits such as “Crazy Car” and “If That’s Not Love” on their show The Naked Brothers Band, but they didn’t stop there. Nat and Alex have continued releasing music alongside their prolific acting careers ever since and their latest album is the best yet.

I always get so excited when a band releases a self-titled album, because you know it’s going to be an incredible project. Yet Nat and Alex’s self-titled release blew my expectations out of the water. On first listen, it’s apparent that the brothers poured themselves into this album. Listening through it was an experience—I felt as though I was on my dying breaths, watching in bliss as flashbacks of my life unfolded alongside each song. This album serves as a soundtrack reflecting on the highs and lows of adolescence, making it a beautiful coming-of-age representation.

The lyrical imagery is gorgeous, with each song standing as its own well-told story. While some tracks are more vague than others—leaving more open to listener interpretation (see: “Backup Plan”)—the emotional intent behind each song shines through clearly and passionately. You can feel the brothers’ emotional growth seep through the spaces between each lyric, the imagery in every track backed by just the right amount of nostalgia. "Soft Kissing Hour", arguably the most nostalgic love song maybe ever, is genuinely in my top 5 favorite songs of all time.

After finishing the album, I felt a familiar emptiness; it was the same feeling that comes after finishing a TV show or book when you’re too emotionally attached to the characters and fully enveloped in their world. That “I don’t know how to go on without this” feeling is exactly what will keep fans listening on repeat.
